Multi-crop livestock farming in the Pilat NRP

Pilat NRP

Pilat Natural Regional Park territory

Location, surface area

The Pilat NRP has been labeled since 1974. Out of a total of 76,000 ha, agriculture occupies 24,466 ha which means approximately 1,000 farms employing nearly 2,000 people. The "Objectif 2025" Charter has ambitious agro-ecological objectives: to protect agricultural, forestry and natural areas in the long term, to improve the environmental performance of agricultural enterprises, to diversify and develop agricultural products and services locally, and to enhance the value of the farming profession.

Types of agricultural production

65% of the farms have a livestock orientation (dairy cattle, sheep and goats, pigs, poultry and some beef cattle). Market gardening, horticulture and fruit production are well developed. One third of the farms sell directly.

Issues and place of the phytos issue

The IFT have been clearly reduced for 25 years. They remain relatively high in viticulture (IFT of 8.5) and in arboriculture (IFT of 20). Certification procedures (AB, HVE, eco-responsible orchards) are increasing. Several municipalities are committed to "0 pesticides" charters.

Projections for the project

A socio-technical diagnosis is envisaged, based on student work. The field crop and arboriculture sectors are seen as targets for design work to reduce the use of pesticides. However, considering the diversity of the sectors present on the territory and their intertwining, the diagnosis could lead us to revise the issues.
